CCISD responds to racial invitation to prom on social media

Corpus Christi—Officials with Corpus Christi ISD addressed a prom invitation that went out over social on Wednesday containing racial remarks.

The district said on Thursday that the students parents were contacted and that proper disciplinary action was being taken by the district in regards to the incident. Consequences include suspension and being prohibited from attending prom as well as a requirement to attend cultural sensitivity counseling.

The district says that the student has issued an apology via social media.

A spokesperson for the district says that they believe this to be a copycat incident characterized as a “joke” that has occurred across the nation.

“We want to be clear: there is never an excuse for such reprehensible actions. Discriminatory language and/or actions will not be tolerated in CCISD,” the district said in a news release Thursday evening.

No further action is expected.
