ERCOT Issues Statewide Power Conservation Emergency

The Energy Regulatory Council of Texas (ERCOT) is urging consumers and businesses to conserve energy Tuesday as triple-digit temperatures are likely to result in a record demand for power.

ERCOT declared an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) Level 1 earlier in the day. People are urged to reduce their electricity use until 7 p.m.

"High temperatures have resulted in record electricity demand over the last few days and may result in a new record today," said ERCOT President and CEO Bill Magness. "Consumers can help lower energy consumption by taking some simple actions between the hours of 3 and 7 p.m."

So far no incidents have been reported however, as demand increases the opportunity arises for the potential of issues.
