Religion: Latter-Day Saints Leaders Releases Statement On Refugees
One of the world's largest churches has released a formal statement regarding the global refugee crisis.
In a recent statement, the leadership of the church recognized that the problem is growing and in their statement, they counseled members and friends of the church on just how to handle the ongoing crisis.
"As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are deeply committed to living the two great commandments to love God and love our neighbor," the statement said. "It is therefore with great concern and compassion that we observe the plight of more than 70 million people around the world who have fled their homes seeking relief from violence, war, or religious persecution."
While refraining from taking a direct political stance the statement bears a broad message across different and varied political lines--even here in the United States.
The church claims a membership of 16,313,735 worldwide as of 2018. That number includes some 1,000 plus members here in the Corpus Christi area.
