Austin-- Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered on Monday that the state was to begin testing all residents and staff in Texas nursing homes.
According to a statement from Governor Abbott's office, he has directed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to “test 100% of residents and staff.”
Matt Pierce Briscoe is currently working on determining the details as to if this applies to long-term care facilities like assisted living facilities, as well.
The Governor's office did not provide a time frame for this testing but sources with the Department of State Health Services say that there are plans drawn up for just such orders. Those plans have not been released.
This is a developing story.
